Port Coquitlam is in full bloom—literally. If you’ve been walking through downtown or cruising by City Hall, you’ve probably already noticed the pops of red, pink, and orange tulips lining the streets. That’s PoCo in Bloom—a city-wide beautification project that goes beyond aesthetics.

This year’s display holds deeper meaning. To mark the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands, the City of Port Coquitlam planted 78,000 tulip bulbs across key locations. From City Hall and McAllister Avenue to Hyde Creek Recreation Centre and even the cemetery, these blooms are a living tribute to the Canadian soldiers who helped liberate the Netherlands during World War II.
You’ll spot a variety of tulips in city planters and garden beds, all specially chosen to honour Canada’s role in that historic moment. It’s a meaningful way to welcome spring and reflect on the stories that shaped our nation and community.

We love seeing how the city uses nature to bring people together, spark conversations, and brighten up our shared spaces. So the next time you’re out for a walk, take a moment to appreciate the flowers—you’re looking at history in bloom.
