Port Coquitlam’s Alanna Wong has turned a simple crochet hobby into a decade-long tradition of giving back. Over the past 10 years, she’s handmade more than 10,000 poppies, raising $28,000 for the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #133. Each poppy takes just ten minutes to make, yet the impact reaches far beyond our community, reminding us that sometimes real change begins with one person taking action.

The Terry Fox Hometown Run brought the community together in a powerful way, with families, runners, bikers, and participants of all ages uniting for Terry’s legacy. The Terry Fox Sculptures Port Coquitlam, known as the Gateway of Giants, were unveiled at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre to honour the hometown hero’s legacy. Created by artist Casto Solano, the bronze figures are designed to be interactive and inspiring for all ages. The unveiling featured community activities, a Terry Fox movie screening, and the Inspiring Local Champions exhibit, making it a memorable day of pride and reflection for the city.
